Water vapor sorption and permeability of sustainable alginate/collagen/SiO2 composite films

چکیده
Films based on polysaccharides and proteins have been widely studied as possible substitutes for food packaging from fossil sources. However, its notorious sensitivity to water is still one of the primary drawbacks. In this study, sodium alginate (SA) hydrolyzed collagen (HC) blend films containing SiO 2 nanoparticles were prepared reduce sensitivity. The behavior these regarding vapor sorption permeability (WVP) was reported nano-SiO concentrations ranging 10%. At each concentration evaluated, several classical mathematical models moisture isotherms adjusted identify mechanisms interactions between water. A reduction approximately 8% in film content, 30% WVP observed higher than 6%. addition, it exposed that exhibited a type III isotherm behavior, suggesting reduced polymeric matrix at low activity. Therefore, SA/HC/SiO composite could represent simple, economical sustainable alternative material with vapor. • alginate/hydrolyzed SiO2 prepared. greater increase . had isothermal behavior.

the aim of this study was to investigate the rate of water vapor permeability (wvp) and moisture sorption of starch-montmorillonite (mmt) nanocomposite films. the nanocomposite films were prepared using the casting method andglycerol was used as a plasticizer. the effect of glycerol concentration on wvp of the films was determined at 25°c with a relative humidity of 0-99% (inside and outside of...
متن کاملSorption and Transport of Water Vapor in Amphiphilic Block Copolymer Films
Water vapor sorption in films consisting of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) amphiphilic block copolymers has been measured gravimetrically at air relative humidity in the range 38–94% at 248C. The water sorption isotherm was obtained and compared to data for water vapor desorption (drying) for the same system. The kinetics of water vapor sorption we...
متن کاملTheoretical Background Water Vapor Sorption Isotherms
The term sorption is generally used to describe the initial penetration and the dispersal of the permeant molecules into food matrices (Chirife and Iglesias 1978) and, more generally, into all kinds of polymers (Naylor 1989; Tsujita 1992). This term includes adsorption, absorption into microvoids, and cluster formation. When a food matrix is placed in a humid atmosphere, the relationship betwee...
متن کاملeffect of oleic and stearic acids on the mechanical, water vapor permeability and microstructural properties of sodium caseinate films
the effect of oleic and stearic acids on the water vapor permeability (wvp) and mechanical properties of sodium caseinate films was investigated. emulsifiers (span 80 and 85) were employed to produce the base mixture of film. tensile strength (ts), elongation (e) and young's modulus (ym) were obtained for both standard (without lipids) and hydrophobic films. results showed that the additio...
